Women’s 2025 Suzuki NZ National Water Polo Club League hits the pool this weekend

Women’s 2025 Suzuki NZ National Water Polo Club League hits the pool this weekend

The women’s 2025 Suzuki New Zealand National Water Polo Club League gets underway this weekend in Auckland, with six clubs set to go head-to-head across two action-packed weekends.

This year’s format has been restructured to allow returning overseas-based players and athletes preparing for the World Aquatics Championships to represent their clubs — a move that’s elevated the level of competition and added some serious depth to team line-ups. With the full field heading into finals weekend, the next two weeks will showcase the best of women’s domestic water polo.

Who’s Playing?

The 2025 women’s division features six teams:

  • North Harbour

  • Sea Wolf

  • Marist

  • Tauranga (new women’s team in 2025)

  • Atlantis City

  • Canterbury

All teams will compete in a single round-robin from 6–8 June, with the top prize up for grabs during finals weekend, 13–15 June, in Auckland. It’s a tight, tournament-style format where every game counts - and the trophy is still anyone’s to win.

Finals weekend will have ticketed spectator entry, however Water Polo New Zealand club members should keep an eye on their email inbox for a promo code to redeem $5 tickets!

What to Watch For

There’s plenty to look forward to across the next two weekends. Here are a few storylines and developments to keep your eye on:

  • New Faces in the Mix: Tauranga’s entry into the women’s division is a welcome addition to the league. They’ll be eager to make an impression and test themselves against some of the country’s most established clubs.
  • The Champs Return: North Harbour Hammerheads, the reigning 2024 champions, are back and chasing another title. With a mix of national reps and club veterans, they’re expected to be one of the teams to beat.
  • Every Game Streamed Live: Can’t be there in person? Every game from both weekends will be streamed live via the Water Polo NZ YouTube channel, so fans around the country (and the world) can tune in.
