Paralympic – Florence hosts the Italian Gold Championship of Water Polo
The Nannini municipal pool in Florence is preparing to become the stage for great Italian Paralympic water polo by hosting the preliminary round, Gold Group, of the 5th Italian Championship of Water Polo FINP (Italian Federation of Paralympic Swimming).
A three-day event of sport and inclusion featuring ten emotionally and competitively charged matches among the leading teams in the national landscape, starting with the reigning Italian champions the Waterpolo Lions, facing the Italy Cup holders and hosts Rari Nantes Florentia (in the pool for the opening match), to the athletes from Dhea Sport; the SS Lazio - winners of the first edition of the Italian Championship - and the San Giorgio Columbus of Genoa, a historic Paralympic club.
The 5th edition of the event, organized by Rari Nantes Florentia under the auspices of the Italian Federation of Paralympic Swimming, with its renewed format, will be live-streamed on You Tube on the official page of the Tuscan club:
REGULATIONS: A novelty of the 5th edition is the introduction of two groups of five teams named “GOLD” and “SILVER". The “GOLD” Serie A gathers the top five teams that were ranked last year in the Italian Championship (GLS Napoli Lions, Rari Nantes Florentia, SS Lazio Nuoto, San Giorgio Columbus, and APD Dhea Sport) which will compete in the first round at the G. Nannini pool in Florence from Friday, April 4 to Sunday, April 6. The top four teams at the end of the preliminary home and away rounds will face off in the final four championship scheduled in Ostia next June.
The “SILVER” Serie A will instead group the remaining four teams ranked in the 2024 Italian Championship (Granda Waterpolo Ability, ASD Crazy Waves, Pallanuoto Trieste SSD, and Mo.Cri.ni. Linus). The newly formed team in the Finp house, the second company from the capital, Octopus SSD, will participate. The Silver group’s first round will take place at the “Bruno Bianchi” Natatorium in Trieste from Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13, 2025.
