Olympiacos's own man dooms them to European elimination, losing 13-14 to Jadran Split in penalties (pics)
Olympiacos was defeated 14-13 in the penalty shootout - regular time 7-7 - against Jadran Split in the 4th matchday of Group A of the LEN Champions League Men's Water Polo quarterfinal stage, with its former goalkeeper, Marko Bijač, blocking a total of five penalties.
With this result, the Piraeus team now has 4 points, five behind both Novi Beograd and Marseille, who have 9 points each. Thus, Olympiacos’ hopes for qualifying to the F-4 are now merely mathematical.
The Piraeus team had a three-goal lead (6-3) at the start of the fourth period, but Jadran responded and overturned the score, taking the lead at 6-7. With a goal from Genidounias, the match went to penalties, where Marko Bijač made the decisive save, granting his team a 14-13 win and pushing his former club one step closer to elimination from the Final-4.
In the other group game, Marseille defeated Novi Beograd with a score of 14-9.
It is worth mentioning that Marko Bijač was honored by the "red-whites" before the start of the match.
