Washington & Jefferson College Tackles Wheaton College, 22-3, & Penn State Behrend, 16-5

ERIE, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College women’s water polo team topped Wheaton College, 22-3, and host Penn State Behrend, 16-5, during the opening day of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region competition at the Junker Center 

Taking on the Lyons of Wheaton, the Presidents put up four points in the second and third quarters while tallying seven in each of the bookends.

Nine Presidents scored in the outing. Emmie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and Autumn Woolcott (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) led the offensive efforts with five goals each. Following up Ratcliff and Woolcott was Laura Anthony (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) with a hat trick.

Rylee Mitchell (Milan, Mich./Milan), Emma Halle (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Mekkiye Ergun (Chicago, Ill./Lake View), Anastacia Didovich (Venice, Fla./Venice), Hallie Ratcliff (Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood) and Angelmarie Asanas (Chicago, Ill./Lake) also scored against the Lyons.

Emmie Ratcliff and Woolcott were also the only Presidents to find the back of the net multiple times in a single quarter. Emmie Ratcliff had two two-goal quarters in the first and second, while Woolcott netted three in the final eight minutes of play.

The Presidents limited Wheaton to just three goals that were tallied in the first quarter before being shut out the remainder of the game.

Hallie Ratcliff was the point leader in the second game, netting four goals to lead the Presidents versus the Lions. Halle and Emmie Ratcliff each had a hat trick in the match as well.

W&J started off strong building a 4-2 lead on a goal. Hallie Ratcliff and Sydney Neumann (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) sandwiched two goals from Halle in the first eight minutes of play.

W&J grew their lead to 10-5 in the second quarter. Penn State Behrend found the first two goals before W&J cut off their scoring for the remainder of the game. Hallie Ratcliff put up three goals alongside a goal apiece from Anthony, Halle and Emmie Ratcliff.

Neumann scored first in the third quarter followed by Didovich and Anthony who found the back of the net once more in the third quarter for the Red & Black, 13-5.

Emmie Ratcliff scored twice in the first three minutes of the final quarter to push the Presidents lead to 15-5. The remainder of the time was scoreless for either team until Mitchell was able to net one final goal for W&J to claim an 11-goal victory.
