Long Beach State Dominates Saint Francis, 23-2

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 6 Long Beach State led from the first whistle and gave no chances to Saint Francis taking the win 23-2 at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Wednesday night. Junior Elisa Portillo passed 150 career goals after adding a team-high of five goals and four assists.
Long Beach State (9-8, 1-0 Big West) held the Red Flash scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game going on a 6-0 run with Portillo and Ellie Goren adding two goals each and Rita Gurri Capel and Gaby Patenaude adding to the tally.
Saint Francis (10-7) got on the board in their first opportunity of the second quarter. LBSU answered back quickly with Gurri Capel adding her second of the game. Goren completed a hat trick before half to extend the Beach lead 8-1 with 1:36 left in the quarter. Late goals by Grace Cuozzo and Chiara Amoroso completed the 4-0 run to close the first half with the Beach leading 10-1.
At the second half, Long Beach State continued to dominate the game holding SFU again scoreless for eight minutes. The Beach scored seven goals in the quarter and extended the lead to 17-1 after three quarters. In the final eight minutes, LBSU remained in control scoring four straight goals before SFU got on the board again, 21-2. Olivia Dam and Emma Seehafer added the last two goals for the Beach to earn their ninth win of the season, 23-2.
Portillo led the offense with five goals while Ellie Goren netted a new career-high of four goals. Gurri Capel added a hat trick, Amoroso and Martina Cardona each added a pair of goals. Cuozzo, Dam, Zelma Koka, Pataneude, Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez and Jamie Oberman completed the scoresheet adding one each. Goalkeeper Chelsea Oliver added five saves and two assists while Charlotte Echlin stopped two shots.
The Beach will face Cal State Fullerton (9-12, 0-1 Big West) on Saturday at Noon in a Big West contest. Live stats can be followed on www.thefosh.net.
