Women’s Water Polo Hosts Saint Francis Wednesday Night; Travels To Fullerton Saturday


After hosting Saint Francis Wednesday the Beach will return to Big West action at Cal State Fullerton.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 6 Long Beach State hosts Saint Francis at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Wednesday night to start the week of games. After hosting the Red Flash the Beach will face Cal State Fullerton for their second game of the Big West action on Saturday at Noon at Fullerton College. 
 
Long Beach State (8-8, 1-0 Big West) opened Big West play with an 11-6 conference win over No. 16 UC Santa Barbaralast week. Senior Martina Cardona and sophomore Chiara Amoroso led the Beach on offense with a hat trick each over the Gauchos and senior Chelsea Oliver added nine saves and became the third player in program history to make 600 saves.  
 
Cardona leads LBSU this season with 41 goals and 20 assists while Elisa Portillo adds 36 goals and 18 assists. Senior Jamie Oberman is second on the team with 19 assists while also adding 17 goals in her last season for the Beach. 
 
Saint Francis (10-6, 1-4 CWPA) comes off two wins at the Salem Invite defeating the hosts 16-12 and VMI, 19-11. Sophomore center Sam Eschelman scored eight goals for SFU during the weekend to lead the team's offense. On defense, Eilis Rogis recorded seven saves and two assists against VMI and Grace Raquel took control of the cage against Salem, recording 11 saves, one goal and an assist. 
 
Cal State Fullerton (10-11, 0-0 Big West) will face No. 6 UC Irvine to open conference play on Wednesday night. The Titans played at the Claremont Convergence with a 1-3 record edging Biola by one, 12-11 and falling to Mount St. Mary's, No. 23 Villanova University and La Salle University. Cal State Fullerton is led by senior utility Destiny Hernandez with 32 goals and 17 assists. On defense, senior Annabelle Sherman records 141 saves, 19 steals and two assists.  
 
Ball drops at 7 p.m. for the game against the Red Flash and live stats can be followed on thefosh.net.
