2024 Men’s Collegiate Club Big Ten Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases changes to the 2024 Men’s Collegiate Club Big Ten Division schedule.
Comprised of Indiana University, Michigan State University, Purdue University, The Ohio State University, the University of Illinois, the University of Iowa, the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin, the Big Ten Division will contest its 14th season in the CWPA. Historically, Michigan State (2010, 2014, 2019, 2021, 2023), Michigan (2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022) and Indiana (2013) have all previously claimed the division crown since the group elected to join the league prior to the 2010 season. The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, September 14-15, at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
Wisconsin informed the league on Wednesday, September 11, of the institution’s inability to attend the Ohio State weekend due to a lack of transportation. In light of this situation, the schedule is revised to ensure each remaining team receives four games during the weekend. The weekend schedule is revised with games utilizing six-minute quarters with neither overtime nor timeouts. All games during the weekend will count toward the division standings.
Depending a determination of the league’s Governance Council regarding this situation, if Wisconsin is not permitted to compete during the remainder of the 2024 season, the remaining league weekends – including the championship – will be revised. If Wisconsin is permitted to compete in 2024, win-loss percentages will be used for seeding the division championship since Wisconsin will not be able to compete in an equal quantity of games compared to the other Big Ten institutions.
The remainder of the league schedule remains unchanged as of September 11 as Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, hosts Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana for an eight-game weekend on Saturday-Sunday, October 5-6, while Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., welcomes Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue for an eight-game weekend on Saturday-Sunday, October 12-13.
The division championship will be decided on Saturday-Sunday, October 26-27, at Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., as the teams contest a currently scheduled 12-game slate. The victor of the division championship earns an automatic berth to the 2024 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship on the weekend of Friday-Sunday, November 8-10, at a site to be determined.
