Teams for the World Championships are set, along with the Hungarian national water polo teams supported by OTP

In the presence of a new, highly significant partner, the two national team coaches, Zsolt Varga and Sándor Cseh, announced the list of teams traveling to the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Following the World Aquatics, the OTP Group has become a supporter of the Hungarian Water Polo Association, opening up new perspectives for the sport through this collaboration.
Hungary's most significant bank group, OTP, has now emerged alongside water sports. In May, the corporate group became a partner of the World Aquatics, appearing as a prominent partner at the U20 Water Polo World Championships in Zagreb for the first time in world competitions. It did not take long for this partnership to advance locally: OTP has become a major supporter of the Hungarian Water Polo Association, a collaboration that the parties shared with the public on a rather unique occasion - the announcement of the teams traveling to the World Championships in Singapore in July.
“A new chapter begins with OTP Group becoming a supporter of Hungarian water polo,” said Norbert Madaras, President of the Hungarian Water Polo Association, at the press event. “On the one hand, our national teams, both the adults and the age-group teams, can prepare with an even stronger background. On the other hand, diplomatic relations in sports can further strengthen with World Aquatics. We have a lot in common, as what OTP is in the Hungarian banking sector, water polo is among team sports - the most successful, with serious traditions and many connections in neighboring countries.”
Norbert Madaras added: "I am convinced that this collaboration can bring a lot to all of us because in both Hungarian water polo and the OTP Group, there is only one measure: success, and when two parties with such orientation meet, it can only generate even better, great results."
Péter Csányi, CEO of OTP, stated: “In sports - just like in life - behind the greatest successes, there are always teamwork, trust, and perseverance. I can proudly say on behalf of the OTP Group that we also want to be part of this path. We believe that water polo is not only part of our past and present but also a shaper of our future.”
As part of the partnership, OTP Bank and the Hungarian Water Polo Association support initiatives such as youth tournaments, talent development championships, and the integration of water polo into elementary school swimming education.
Regarding the team announcements, Norbert Madaras indicated: “The first year of an Olympic cycle always proceeds in the spirit of renewal, and this time is no different. We expected the two coaches to build a new team, and some players have already been familiar to the public in recent times. As for the Singapore goal, we aim to reach the semifinals and, once there, to win a medal. It is also essential to find players who will assist us at the Budapest World Championships and the Los Angeles Olympics.”
Following the announcement, the two national team coaches presented the list of teams traveling to the World Championships in Singapore.
Sándor Cseh, in relation to the roster displayed on the screen, said: “I had sleepless nights; it is very challenging to shape the team if each player gives 100% of themselves in their everyday lives. It is by no means certain that this is the final Hungarian national team; it is important that the competition for inclusion in the squad is always tight. Everyone always wants to win; seven or eight teams are also traveling to Singapore to win a medal. I expect us to play with great enthusiasm, joy even in the most crucial matches, and also to be calm yet bold, as this is what is needed for success.”
The selection of the 15 players posed an even tougher challenge for Zsolt Varga, as several players struggled with injuries and illnesses - ultimately, he had to forego the inclusion of the team's essential player, Soma Vogel.
“There are many stressful hours behind the decisions. I consider the twenty-three players who were part of the extended roster as a unit; I also count on those who are not traveling to Singapore this time in the coming years. In addition to stability, we prioritize freshening up the team this time, this team is capable of defeating the strongest rivals - teamwork and patience are required for this success,” said Varga.
