Saint Francis University, UC Davis, UC San Diego and Salem Dominate Collegiate Water Polo Action

No. 23 Brown University women’s water polo concluded its California trip with two losses, falling to No. 16 UC Davis 17-13 and No. 15 UC San Diego 21-16 at the Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla. Alexandra Love led Brown's efforts with nine total goals over both matches, while Ava Schoening added eight. Against UC Davis, Love and Schoening both scored four times, with Sofia Flierl and Megan Newby also contributing. Brown's rally in the final quarter was not enough to overcome UC Davis’s lead. In the matchup against UC San Diego, Love scored five goals and Schoening four. Brown's strong third quarter surge cut the deficit to one, but UCSD sealed the win with a decisive 4-0 run in the fourth quarter.

At the 2026 Salem Invitational in Bridgeport, West Virginia, Mercyhurst University faced tough defeats. The Lakers fell to host Salem University 18-4 and to Gannon University 19-7 on the second day of competition. Bailey Dunn led Mercyhurst with four goals across both games. Against Salem, Dunn, Alexa Corrao, and Adriana Boltes Moragues provided the team's offense, though Salem controlled the game throughout, finishing with a 5-0 fourth quarter run. Against Gannon, Victoria Mastrangelo, Krista Domaracki, Marley Hanlon, and Eva Henneman contributed goals for Mercyhurst. However, Gannon maintained a commanding lead in both halves to secure the victory.

Saint Francis University delivered a historic performance at the Salem Invitational, defeating McKendree University 22-8 on the tournament’s second day. Caylah Olay led with six goals and set the program’s all-time career goals record at 279. Sofia Maioriello set a new Saint Francis single-game record with eight assists, alongside a goal and five steals. Lexanny Gonzalez added six goals, while Bella Castaneda, Laura Knight, Sarah Hartwell, and Lucy Willis provided notable contributions on offense and defense. In goal, Victoria Tamarit had 10 saves and five steals. Saint Francis previously defeated Mercyhurst University 18-3, building a dominant lead early and maintaining control throughout.
