Thrilling Victory for the National Team in the premiere, 19-18 against Italy (pics)
A successful start. Our Youth Men's National Team (U20) managed to defeat Italy with 19-18 in the premiere of its obligations for the World Championship of the category, hosted in Zagreb.
With this success, our representative team took the first step to secure one of the top two spots in Group B, which lead directly to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Until the middle of the second period, the game was tied (5-5), but then our National Team took the lead by even five goals (15-10), with the completion of the third quarter, displaying impressive offensive diversity and very good shooting percentages.
However, our international players lost their focus and the Italians managed to equalize at 17-17 (2:08 before the match ended). Andreas Bitsakos with a goal on man-up gave the lead back to the Greek team, Lazaros Vekris made a crucial save on Trimarki's shot, and Ilias Aggelopoulos "sealed" the victory in the last 57 seconds of the game.
Next opponent for our representative team is Serbia on Sunday (6/15) at 17:00.
