U-16 national team finishes third in tournament in Trebinje
Our U-16 water polo national team has secured the third place at the tournament in Trebinje, with Andrej Durutović being named the player of the tournament.
In the "consolation final," Montenegro defeated Croatia 14-9 (3-1, 5-2, 3-3, 3-3).
Luka Dragović and Stefan Vraneš scored three goals each, while Matija Franeta, Dimitrije Milić, Danilo Roganović, and Andrej Durutović each contributed two goals.
In the semifinals, after a close and intense match, the young "sharks" were defeated by Serbia in penalty shootout 13-12 (0-2, 4-1, 2-4, 2-1, 5-4).
In regular play, Stefan Vraneš was the top scorer with four goals, while Andrej Durutović scored two, and Matija Franeta and Dimitrije Milić each added one goal.
The Montenegrin team also defeated Serbia in the group stage of the tournament 11-8 (4-3, 3-0, 3-3, 1-2). Vraneš and Durutović were the top scorers in that match as well, with three goals each, while Danilo Savović, Luka Dragović, and Miloš Nikezić scored one goal each.
Our team also outperformed Germany with a score of 13-7 (4-1, 4-4, 3-1, 2-1), with Durutović scoring six goals, Vraneš and Savović three goals each, and Sava Stamatović and Andrija Aleksić one goal each.
In the group stage, the "sharks" suffered defeats against Hungary and Croatia.
Hungary won by a close margin of 7-6 (2-0, 1-3, 1-2, 2-2). Durutović scored three goals, while Roganović, Milić, and Savović each scored one.
Croatia emerged victorious with a score of 10-8 (4-2, 2-3, 2-2, 2-1). Durutović scored three goals, Vraneš two, and Dragović, Savović, and Milić one goal each for Montenegro.
Our U-16 national team will participate in the European Championship in Manisa (Turkey) from July 7th to 13th.
In the group stage, they will face Greece, Italy, and Croatia as their opponents.
