No. 11 Women's Water Polo Heads To Michigan for CWPA Weekend
PRINCETON – The No. 11 Princeton Women's Water Polo Team heads back on the road for another Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) weekend.
The Tigers make the trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a trio of contests. Saturday, Princeton battles Mercyhurst (10:30 a.m.) and No. 14 Michigan (6 p.m.) on Saturday and Saint Francis on Sunday (10:30 a.m.). Each game will be streamed on Big Ten Network Plus ($).
Harvard currently leads the CWPA with 16 points and an 8-2 record. Michigan (6-2) and Princeton (6-2) are currently tied for second. The winner of Princeton and Michigan will be in the driver's seat for atleast the No. 2 seed in the CWPA Tournament. Should the Tigers win out, they would secure the No. 1 seed in the tournament based on their +3-goal differential against Harvard.
Kayla Yelensky leads the Tigers with 72 goals and is coming off her third CWPA Player of the Week honor. She registered 13 goals in the Tigers' three games last weekend. She contributed four goals, two drawn ejections, an assist and a steal vs. No. 22 Brown. She later added five tallies and three drawn ejections in a win over No. 9 Harvard. The senior followed up with four goals, four steals and two helpers in the victory over Mercyhurst.
Yelensky's 72 goals this season are one of only 11 times a Princeton player has recorded at least 70 in a campaign. She has 256 tallies in her career which is fourth most all-time.
Rachael Carver paces the squad with 44 helpers and is second with 34 goals. Carver is the program's all-time leader with 244 career assists. Ava Houlahan is third in goals with 31 while also adding 23 assists and 27 steals. The Tigers have seven others with at least 10 tallies in Shanna Davidson (27), Emese Batizi (20), Olivia Krotts (18), Ally Lurie (14), Kate Mallery (13) Kendall Wyer (12) and Charlotte Riches (11).
Lindsey Lucas is 13-6 in the cage with a .542 save percentage and 182 stops for Princeton this season.
