This week, the KNZB is launching its very first podcast series. In the five-part series 'From mini to medal', conversations will take place with top athletes about their experiences in youth sports. What sports did they practice in the past? Who was a super coach for them? What challenges did they face as young athletes? And what did the road to the top look like? Six top athletes, five aquatics sports, five unique stories! The first episode, featuring the story of water polo player Lieke Rogge, is available today to listen to via the KNZB account on Spotify at this link.
In the podcast series 'From mini to medal', top athletes, together with host André van Meerkerk, look back on their time as youth athletes in water polo, diving, competitive swimming, paraswimming, or synchronized swimming. As young children, they once dove into the water for the first time and knocked on the door of the local swimming club, long before they were labeled as 'talent' or 'top athlete'. They all have one thing in common: they found (and still find) aquatics sports especially fantastic! Their coaches played an important role, but the conversations also touch upon parents, sisters, teammates, and friends.
This podcast aims not only to provide listeners with a unique insight into the sports experiences behind top performances, but also to inspire trainers, coaches, parents, officials, and young athletes. Not necessarily to reach the top, but above all to have a lot of fun together, to pay attention to each other, and to see the talents of all children.

In the first episode of this podcast series, water polo player Lieke Rogge is a guest. She talks about her first steps as a youth athlete on the korfball field and how she experienced the label 'top talent'. She also openly shares her story about the moment she lost all joy in her beloved water polo sport. How did Lieke and those around her react? And when did her 'Olympic fire' start burning again?
