
Michigan Set to Host Wolverine Invitational at Canham Natatorium

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan water polo team (9-7, 3-2 CWPA) will compete at Canham Natatorium for the first time this season when it hosts the seven-team Wolverine Invitational from Friday through Sunday (March 21-23). The Wolverines will begin on Friday (March 21) at 6 p.m. against Mercyhurst (4-12, 0-4 CWPA). On Saturday (March 22), the Maize and Blue face Bucknell (11-8, 2-4 CWPA) at 11:30 a.m. before meeting Saint Francis (11-9, 1-4 CWPA) at 2:45 p.m. Michigan will conclude the tournament on Sunday (March 23), with games against Pomona-Pitzer (9-7) at 11:45 a.m. and Salem (5-13) at 2:45 p.m. All of Michigan's contests will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan returns to the pool after going 2-2 in the Aztec Invitational last weekend in San Diego, Calif. The team notched wins over Bucknell and No. 8 Harvard.
• Ari Karampetsou delivered a strong all-around performance, leading the Wolverines with 10 goals over the weekend -- including back-to-back hat tricks against Bucknell and UC San Diego. She also dished out two assists and dominated defensively with 12 steals across four games.
• Freshman Matilda Waugh showcased her offensive prowess with seven goals and two assists, earning an honorable mention for CWPA Rookie of the Week.
• Emma Gustafsson continued her strong season, bringing her total to 24 points after netting five goals throughout the weekend.
• The Wolverines' depth was on full display as 13 different Wolverines found the back of the net over the four-game stretch.
• California native Sophia Panossian played a pivotal role in the win over Harvard, matching her career high with two goals to help secure the victory.
• Ashley O'Neill provided a spark, contributing three goals and an assist. She stepped up with a multi-goal effort in one matchup and delivered a key assist in another.
• U-M is set for a rematch with Bucknell, aiming for another victory after defeating the Bison 16-13 in San Diego. The Wolverines will also face Mercyhurst, Saint Francis, Pomona-Pitzer, and Salem for the first time this season, entering each matchup with a winning record.
