
Carver's Five Goals Helps No. 11 Princeton Women's Water Polo Rally Over No. 12 LMU, 9-8
LOS ANGELES – Olivia Krotts' goal with 19 seconds to go was the game-winner as the No. 11 Princeton Women's Water Polo Team took down the No. 12 Loyola Marymount Lions, 9-8, at the Burns Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Princeton trailed 8-6 as the fourth quarter got underway. Rachael Carver recorded her fourth and fifth goals of the contest to tie the game at 8-all with 1:05 to go.
After Kate Mallery caused a turnover with 39 seconds remaining, head coach Derek Ellingson called timeout. Krotts found the back of the cage for the game winner before Lindsey Lucas made her ninth and most important save of the night right before the buzzer.
The Tigers started off with three of the four first goals and eventually led 4-2 after eight minutes. Loyola Marymount recorded the final two goals of the first half to tie the game at 5-all at haltime. The Lions also posted the last two tallies of the third stanza before the thrilling final eight minutes.
Carver's five goals are a new career high. Ava Houlahan added three assists in the victory. The Tigers have won five straight games are currently 9-2 overall. Princeton will take on No. 23 Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday at 7 p.m.
