Women’s Water Polo Dominates Toronto In Exhibition Game
Freshman Rita Gurri Capel led the offense with four goals.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – With a dominating third quarter, No. 9 Long Beach State defeated the Toronto Golden Jets, 18-3 in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
Freshman Gaby Patenaude opened the score for the Beach after three minutes of missed opportunities by both teams. Rita Gurri Capel added her first of the game with 35 seconds left in the quarter to make it 2-0 in Long Beach State favor. The Golden Jets added a late goal to head into the second quarter trailing the Beach, 2-1.
In the second quarter the Beach scored three straight goals to make it 5-1 with 2:32 left. Toronto scored one to shorten LBSU lead but back-to-back goals by junior Hailey Multz put the Beach up 7-2 at the end of the second quarter.
The third period was where the Beach was able to extend their lead. A 7-0 run allowed the Beach to control the game before a late penalty shot goal by the Jets made it 14-3 after three quarters.
The Beach closed the game with four unanswered goals and defeated the Golden Jets, 18-3 in the exhibition game to open a busy week for the team.
Gurri Capel led the team with four goals. Pateneude and Elisa Portillo added a hat trick each. Martina Cardona, Hailey Multz, Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez and Emma Seehafer each added two goals apiece. Chelsea Oliver collected six saves, Charlotte Edler three and Kayla Melville two.
The Beach is back in action Friday morning to face No. 10 Arizona State in the first game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by UC Irvine. Ball drops at 11:20 a.m. and live stats can be followed on thefosh.net.
