Stari Grad Better Than Vukovi to Continue Winning Streak

The central water polo event of last weekend was the match between Radnički and Novi Beograd in the Premier Group of the Regional League, but exciting matches were also played in lower divisions.

Premier Regional League, Round 17

In matches played on Saturday and Sunday, the only Serbian club that recorded a victory was Šabac, defeating Solaris in Šibenik 15:11, with four goals from Filip Novaković.

Despite a strong resistance in the first half, Red Star failed to surprise Split's Jadran. The score was tied 4:4 at the beginning of the third quarter, but Jadran controlled the match thereafter and won 10:5. Valis is still without a win, this time losing to Primorje in Rijeka.

A1 Regional League, Group B, Rounds 13 and 14

Stari Grad maintained a perfect record, defeating city rivals at the "11.april" pool and securing first place in Group B of the A1 Regional League, advancing to the group from 1st to 4th place.

In the first match of the weekend, Zoran Mijalkovski's team, as expected, defeated Zemun 17:7.

On Monday, Stari Grad visited the Novi Beograd Vukovi. During the first half, the hosts led more often under the guidance of Nenad Vasilovski, but the lead was only greater than two goals once. Old Town caught up with the home team, and going into the last quarter, the score was 9:9. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Old Town took a two-goal lead for the first time (11:9). The Novi Beograd team equalized (11:11). Then, two consecutive goals by the guests followed, after which the hosts only softened the defeat. Old Town triumphed 13:12. The most effective player for the winning team was Gavril Subotić with five goals. The former Partizan teammate of Subotić, Draško Gogov, also had the same performance in the opposing team with four goals.

Novi Beograd Vukovi are still in the race for the second place that leads to the playoffs for 1st to 4th place. Partizan also has a chance to catch up with the second-placed Budućnost, as they provided one of the best performances of the season and won against the Vukovi 15:11 as visitors this weekend. Andrija Jauković led the black and white team's attack with four goals, while on the other side, as usual, Gogov was the most efficient, also with four goals.

Currently, the teams with the best chance to advance from Group A to the playoffs for 1st to 4th place are Split's Mornar and Zadar.

The group stage of the A1 league concludes at the end of February and the beginning of March. Key matches will then be played in Belgrade. Old Town will host Budućnost and Kataro, and Partizan expects matches with the same rivals. Novi Beograd Vukovi still have one more match left against Zemun.
