Tournaments – Rari Nantes Sori hosts the Nordic League: only Italian team in competition
From February 28 to March 2, Rari Nantes Sori will host the second phase of the Nordic League Water Polo qualification in its own pool, an important international water polo competition involving teams from different European countries. The Ligurian team will be the only Italian representative in the tournament and will compete against clubs from Lithuania, Portugal, and Germany.
The Nordic League Water Polo aims to offer a high-level competition to teams from emerging water polo countries. The format includes an initial group stage, followed by an intermediate round to determine the teams qualified for the final phase.
In Sori, four teams from the intermediate phase will compete with a specific goal: to secure a spot in the Final Eight in Tenerife, where the title will be awarded. The top two teams in the group will advance to the final phase, while the third will be relegated to the Nordic Trophy, another competition whose final stage will also take place in Tenerife. The fourth-placed team will be eliminated from the tournament.
The group hosted at the Sori Municipal Pool will include:
- Rari Nantes Sori (Italy)
- Vilnius Delfinas (Lithuania)
- Sporting Clube de Portugal (Portugal)
- White Sharks Hannover (Germany)
The coach of Rari Nantes Sori, Willy Molina, emphasized the importance of the competition for the team and the club:
“The Nordic League is an important opportunity for us. Hosting three foreign teams in our pool is a great honor and will allow us to encounter different water polo cultures. Our goal is to qualify for the final phase in Tenerife, and we will give our best to achieve it.”
