OVK Split defeated in Maribor - Croatian Water Polo Association
The biggest surprise of the 12th round of Group A of the A1 league was offered by the only Slovenian representative in the league, Maribor's Branik. The team coached by Tomislav Gradski from Zagreb recorded their second victory of the season. After defeating Budva in the 3rd round, they have now also defeated OVK Split.
Deservedly so, as the guests from Split only briefly and minimally led in the first quarter, before the home team completely took over in the third quarter in the pool. Branik at one point even had a lead of 4 goals (11:7).
Zadar victorious through Zagreb
In the Sveticama pool in Zagreb, in a match between top teams, Zadar outplayed Medvescak. The home team never led at any point, and the closest they got to leveling the score was at the beginning of the match (2:2). However, in the second quarter, the guests led 6:2 towards the end of the period (it ended 6:3). Midway through the following quarter, Nikola Šimunović (Medveščak) and Domagoj Burić (Zadar 1952) received exclusion fouls which are crucial players in the lineups of these teams.
Medveščak managed to reduce the gap to one goal at one point, but in the final quarter, Zadar pulled away to a 4-goal lead, which ultimately decided the final outcome.
Tomorrow, or Sunday, February 9th, another match of this round between POŠK 1937 and KPK was supposed to take place, but it has been postponed.
