Jugaši časno ispali iz Europe
Last season's Euro Cup winner is no longer able to defend the title won last year in Rijeka. Our Jug Adriatic Insurance team was defeated by Kragujevac's Radnički for the second time in the round of sixteen of this competition.
After Radnički's victory in the first match in Dubrovnik (January 25, 15:9), the opponent also triumphed in the second leg. However, they had to put in a solid effort to achieve that.
Although it didn't seem so after the first half of the game, especially after the second quarter which Radnički won 6:1, they had a lead of 9:3 at halftime.
At that point, the hosts eased off a bit, realizing that the job was basically done, while on the other hand, there was a sense of Juga's defiance and pride. Regardless of realizing they wouldn't proceed to the next round of the Euro Cup, they played with honor until the end. In the third quarter, they made a complete comeback, winning that part of the game 7:2, surprising the hosts quite substantially.
After three quarters, the opponent was only ahead by one goal (11:10). However, Juga's team lost Burđelez and Cabanas due to their third personal foul. Despite this, the people of Dubrovnik maintained a minimal deficit until the end, so we can conclude that they honorably exited the Euro Cup.
It's worth noting that Waspo 98 Hannover, with a group of Croatian players, also exited the Euro Cup. After a defeat in the first match in their own pool against Brescia (15:12), they played a draw in Italy in the return leg (11:11). The scorers for the German team from our players were – Luka Lozina 3, Hrvoje Benić 2, and Antonio Buha 1 goal. Vasas, where David Mijić plays, defeated Barcelona 15:10 and recuperated a one-goal deficit from the first match (Mijić from Osijek scored 1 goal for the Hungarians).
The teams advancing to the quarterfinals are – Mladost, Primorac Kotor, Radnički, Jadran (HN), Pro Recco, Sabadell, Brescia, and Vasas.
