David Martín: "We want to adapt to the new rules and reach the Super Final World Cup"

First thoughts from David Martín, Spanish men's national team coach, during the Cycle Start Concentration in Palma (26-30 Dec), in the days leading up to the World Cup - Division 1 to be held in Bucharest (Romania) from January 6 to 12, 2025. Spain is in Group A alongside Hungary and France, in a competition involving eleven countries divided into four groups. The aim is to reach the Super Final World Cup in April.

David first mentioned how the concentration of the senior team -24 water polo players included- in Son Hugo (Palma) has been going in these final days of the year: "Very positive assessment of the concentration. Here in Palma, we're being treated great and the training conditions are magnificent. We've come with a large group to see many players and to adapt to this new regulation that we will face in the World Cup in Bucharest."

The men's national team coach mentioned that "the idea in Romania is to have the first competitive experience in the second week of January with these new rules, to see where this new water polo is heading. Obviously, we want to compete, although true that we have already qualified for the World Championship in Singapore next summer."

He further emphasizes that the objective is predetermined. "We are also going to the World Cup with the objective of qualifying for the Super Final in April because we believe that playing the most matches with these new rules will give us a little more knowledge about them. Therefore, a very positive start to the work, the players are working very well, and we have all the facilities here in Palma. "
