Schedule of the Men's and Women's World Cup in Alexandropolis and Bucharest
We will start the month of January with revolutions running high in international water polo. Not in vain, our two national teams will kick off the year 2025 with their respective phases of the 1st Division of the World Cup. The women's competition will take place from January 14th to 19th in Alexandropolis (Greece); the men's competition, from January 7th to 12th in Bucharest (Romania).
Starting with the team led by Miki Oca, the format of this Division 1, in which Spain is participating, consists of two groups of four teams each. Group B, where our team is, includes the United States, Greece, Spain, and Hungary; Group A will consist of the Netherlands, Israel, Italy, and Australia. Six days of competition await. After the three group stage matches, the top two teams from each group will form a new group, play three more games, and the total points will be calculated. The team with the lowest points will be relegated to Division 2. The top six teams will advance to the World Cup Finals.
The schedule is as follows:
January 14th: United States vs. Spain (15:00).
January 15th: Spain vs. Greece (19:20)
January 16th: Australia vs. Israel (19:30)
On January 17th, 18th, and 19th, Spain will play three more matches depending on their position in Group B.
As for the men's competition, there will be four groups of three teams each. Spain is in Group A with France and Hungary. In this case, there will be round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. The winners of each group will advance directly to the quarterfinals. Similar to the women's tournament, the last-placed team will be relegated to Division 2, and the top six teams will play in the competition finals.

Spain will play four more guaranteed matches, with opponents and times depending on their final standing in Group A.
