BURGAS | Chus Martín: "Now comes the important part, we can't fail if we want a medal"
Spain has achieved its first major objective in a very complicated group. Our junior men's team finished first in Group A and went directly to the quarter-finals. Chus Martín's team, with two wins and one loss, finished on top thanks to the goal difference that broke the three-way tie with Hungary and Croatia.
Spain will face Italy in the quarter-finals (Thursday, 17:45) and we spoke with the national coach to take stock of the first phase and that first knockout match.
“We finished the first phase with two wins and one loss, but the most important thing is that the team has grown game after game. Now comes the important part of the competition with these quarter-finals starting tomorrow against Italy,” says Chus Martín.
“It's true that Italy hasn't won a single match in the first phase, but we already know the potential they have and we have to be prepared for the match that represents playing against them, especially in the quarter-finals,” he adds.
“Today has been a day of rest, we have been able to rest, recharge our batteries and work on some things and prepare for tomorrow's match. From here comes the most important part of the competition and we cannot fail if we want to be eligible for medals," explains the coach.
