Men's U19 European Championship: Warriors Club, Part 1
Our men's U19 national team just held on for a very long time at the opening of the European Championship in Burgas, at the beginning of the fourth part it was still 6-8 against the Croatians, but the guys mobilized amazing energy, fought to the end, Olivér Leinweber, who scored six goals, was on the water, and thanks to him, the victory was finally won in the last second, with a stunning bomb launched from seven meters managed to win it!
The Croatians scored two quick goals - a nice drop from action, then a great finish from the wall... And we didn't even take a breath... Before the worst would have turned, Vince Varga also made an excellent shot from the wing, then Olivér Leinweber bombed a healthy one, and within 50 seconds the equalizer was achieved. Then, after overcoming a deficit, Ádám Peőcz took the lead with the third action goal - and the Croatians hit the crossbar with a five-pointer, a certain psychological superiority was already felt here... Still, we couldn't take advantage of it, and our opponent equalized again 45 seconds before the whistle - this too remained at the end of the first half (3-3).
The second half started in a similar fashion - after the first half, after a repeated drop of the ball, the Croatians were given the right to take the initiative, and they took advantage of their passing chance, and then a at the end of the counter, another drop goal came, after a minute and a half they went by two again. Unfortunately, we also missed two chances, the ball went around more imprecisely than they did - four minutes passed when Leinweber made it better with an unmarked bomb, or rather it went out of action. We didn't get any further, in fact, towards the end of the Daikin Cup in Szeged, Gergő Szabó, who was stretching dizzyingly, successfully pushed the ball off the goal post behind the goal line, meaning we had to hold on from 4-6 after the break.
Two minutes in the zone- after testing, Peőcz got into a clear shooting position and didn't make a mistake. Unfortunately, we didn't come out well from the next key moment either, we had a chance to equalize, but again the ball didn't go "believably", Pavlic almost restored the two-goal difference with a nice movement. As a small bit of good news, at least it didn't become three, after we defended a deficit, Zalán Nagy blocked ideally - only for Márk Szécsi to make it five, and Leinweber made no mistake. We managed to break up another Croatian goal, Gergő Szabó also started to get involved, so in the end we were able to achieve enough to go one down in the final part.
Unfortunately, even though we managed to get the ball, the first attack ended again with an intercepted cross. in addition, Susic came from this and cut in from the wing next to our late defender. From a time-consuming square, we finally managed to play the figure to Leinweber, who shot defenselessly from a good spot, but before we could calm down a bit, we let Penava swing the ball to four meters, and from there it was child's play for him. But then Csongor Lugosi got rid of it effectively - we were hoping that the uplifting central goal would only give the team a boost, since there were still 3:43 left in the game.
And it did, we took the attack to five from a great defense, and Leinweber didn't today. he could make a mistake, we caught up with them at 9-9, exactly three minutes before the whistle. In fact, we had a ball to take the lead, but we didn't recover from it, the Croatians, on the other hand, got an advantage, but they played it in vain after a timeout, they managed to destroy it, so the end was a shot that hit the crossbar. Vince Varga's bomb bounced off the goalie's hand and onto the post, Szabó also blocked Pavlic's long shot, our time-out and our last attack for the three points came 32 seconds before the whistle.
And we got it! We recovered a blocked ball, and Leinweber fought until he finally got a free throw, and he hit it from seven meters so that the goal fell. The clock showed 0:01 - that's how you have to win a game. We will not write superlatives about Olivér's production today (six goals) just because we are still in the opening match of the European Championship.
After the way the tournament in Szeged ended against the Serbs, it is a fantastic fact that a week later a with such a victory we managed to start the continental competition.
The next broadcast of the Warriors Club is due on Monday at 1:15 PM Hungarian time against Montenegro.
