BRONX, N.Y. — With the start of the 2024 season just around the corner, the Fordham University water polo team has selected seniors Mark Katsev, Lucas Nieto Jasny and Luca Silvestri as the team captains for the upcoming year.

Katsev and Nieto Jasny have been a part of all three MAWPC Championships for the Rams, with Silvestri being a part of the last two after transferring to Fordham from Westcliff University.

Katsev has appeared in 84 games over his first three seasons, netting 40 goals, 32 assists, and 18 steals.  Last season, he set new career-highs in assists (15), steals (8) and blocks (6), and was named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team for the second time.

A former All-Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Honorable Mention selection, Nieto Jasny is a team captain for the second consecutive season.  He has been a model of consistency for the Rams since joining the team, registering 117 points (2021), 113 points (2022), and 116 points (2023) over three seasons.  He has scored at least 55 goals in each of his three seasons with a career-best 69 as a freshman.  In 2023, Nieto Jasny set personal-bests with 60 assists and 15 blocks and earned MAWPC Player of the Week once, while over the last 25 years of Fordham water polo, his 180 career goals rank fifth, while his 166 assists are third.  He is also a three-time ACWPC All-Academic Team honoree and a two-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection.

Silvestri was an ACWPC Honorable Mention All-America pick in 2023 after being a First Team All-MAWPC selection in the regular season and earning three MAWPC weekly awards.  He led the Rams in goals (67), steals (52), and blocks (17) last season, while dishing out 32 assists.  He also tallied 22 man-advantage goals.  At the MAWPC Championship, Silvestri was named Second Team All-MAWPC Championship after scoring five times in two games, which included a hat trick in the championship match against the United States Naval Academy.  In two seasons with the Rams, he has collected 121 goals, 53 assists, 81 steals, and 24 blocks.
