Emily Diacono Named Mount St. Mary’s University Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Assistant Coach

EMMITSBURG, Md. — Mount St. Mary’s University water polo head coach Justin Vink has added Emily Diacono to his coaching staff for this upcoming season of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. She joins current assistant coach Sara Marin on the staff of both the men’s and women’s teams.

The sister of former Mount St. Mary’s men’s and women’s coach and current Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) head head coach Alyssa Diacono, she comes to the Mount with a plethora of experience at both the collegiate and professional levels of the sport.

A four-year player with the Fresno State University Bulldogs of the Golden Coast Conference (GCC), Diacono was an Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic selection all four years at the university. She was also a member of the Bulldogs team that won back-to-back GCC titles in 2021 and 2022 to clam consecutive berths to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Water Polo Championship tournament. After college, she pursued the game professionally in Malta with San Giljan ASC.

As well as playing water polo, Diacono was a sports performance intern at Fresno State where she worked on team development in science-based technology with swimming and diving, water polo, cross country, softball, baseball and football.
