For the long-time Serbian national team player, Sava Ranđelović, a ceremonial reception was held in the City Hall in Niš this week, and the winner of three Olympic gold medals received a gift of 300,000 dinars from the City of Niš, which, as he said, he will forward to humanitarian purposes. .
The reception was attended by a large number of children who practice water polo. In addition to the monetary award, he also received his portrait with motifs from Niš, painted by Milovan Penkov Penkaso, as well as a gold coin of Emperor Constantine.
– Thank you very much for the prizes, and I would like to pass it on to whoever needs it more. In agreement with you, I will see who the prize will go to. I would like to thank everyone for their support during the Olympic Games. I believe that a lot of you doubted us, that you didn't believe until the end that we could win the gold, but that somehow strengthened and motivated us to realize our dreams and reach the desired goal - said Sava Ranđelović.
He added that he hopes that young athletes will look up to their success and that this will motivate them to train more.
– This is also your medal and I hope that young athletes will look up to it and that this will be a motivation for them to train harder and believe in themselves and that one day we will wait here for a new Olympic champion. I promise that I will sit here in the first row, and welcome him in the same way as you welcome me - said the winner of Olympic, world and European gold.
Sava scheduled another meeting in four years, with a new Olympic medal.
Sava was ceremoniously received by the mayor of Niš, Dragoslav Pavlović, who presented him with awards and recognitions. In return, Sava gave the mayor his cap.
– Niš is proud of you. Thank you for what you do for Serbia, for your city and your fellow citizens. Thank you for setting the right example for all these little ones, how they should work, improve themselves hard and build themselves up in all these sports they play, and in the water sports in which you gained that beautiful career - said Pavlović.
Sava Ranđelović started his water polo career in VK Niš, played for ŽAK, Crvena zvezda, Italian Breša, Budapest, and currently plays for Hungarian Vašaš.
