With an eye on the Pan American Games, Brazilian Water Polo makes final stretch of preparation in Spain - News :: CBDA
(Rio de Janeiro, October 2, 2023) Brazilian Water Polo begins, this Tuesday (2), a series of training sessions in Spain with the objective of preparing for the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023. The men's and women's teams will be in Europe until the main competition of the season for the sport.
The planning of the CBDA Water Polo board has focused, since the beginning of the season, on the Pan American Games in Santiago. The competition, which is worth a spot in the Paris Olympic Games, is the season's target for the sport.
For this reason, both teams have been training regularly in Brazil for the Pan American Games. The final stretch, however, will be in Europe. The teams will train and play practice matches with Spanish clubs such as Rubí, Mataró, Catalunha, Barceloneta, Terrasa, St Feliu, among others.
“The idea of training in Europe is to find rhythm. We did six weeks of training in Brazil, we did the national and internal championships. Now, it's time to find international rhythm. Some athletes played in the U-20 World Cup, others played in the U-18 South American Championship, and now we are going to seek out the competitiveness of the adult team,” said Paulo Rogério, coach of the women’s team.
The women’s team left on Monday (2), while the men’s team leaves on the 7th. The Pan American Games, for Water Polo, begin on October 30. In the men’s competition, Brazil is in Group A, alongside: the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico. In the women’s competition, the Brazilian team also faces the United States and Puerto Rico, in addition to Chile.
The preparation action in Europe has the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
