(Rio de Janeiro, September 5, 2023) The Brazilian under-20 women's Water Polo team embarks, this Tuesday (5), for Coimbra, in Portugal, to compete in the World Championship of the category. The competition starts this Friday (8) and runs until September 15.
Brazil is in group A of the competition alongside Spain, Greece and the Netherlands. According to coach Rafael Hall, the team called up is quite new compared to the last World Championship, held in Netanya, Israel, when Brazil finished in ninth place.
“The team is very new, with a large majority of athletes in the U-18 category. Our idea is to develop them with an eye on Los Angeles 2028. It will be our first big challenge,” he said.
Brazil’s debut will be against Spain, on Friday, at 1 pm (Brasília time). According to the coach, the expectation is that Brazil will remain in the elite of World Water Polo in this category.
“The expectation is very good. We want to make the most of this World Cup. We want to arrive strong in this World Cup to maintain and improve this position. We made the most of our training period and we will represent Brazil very well”, she concluded.
