Brazilian Under-16 Water Polo Championship
(Rio de Janeiro, August 19, 2023) The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports became aware, on the afternoon of this Saturday (19), of an act of racism between the SESI Ribeirão Preto and Fluminense match, valid for the Brazilian Under-16 Water Polo Championship, played at the Rebouças Sports Center, in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The competition is organized by the Brazilian Water Polo League, with the approval of the CBDA.
With less than two minutes left in the third quarter, a person in the area occupied by the SESI fans uttered the following phrase: "What's up, neguim, what's up, nequim, aren't you going to do anything?", in the direction of the referee Mateus Borges.
The referee official, Yuri Machado Maciel, interrupted the game and ordered the referee delegate in charge, João Rene Cardenuto, to conduct the procedure of removing all those present from the stands and leaving the complex's premises. Immediately after the fans left, the game was restarted and continued until its end.
The CBDA vehemently repudiates any discriminatory act, whether racial, sexual, religious or in any space of our society.
The report of the arbitration will be forwarded to the STJD of the CBDA, which will analyze the appropriate measures from this moment on.
