WATER POLO / WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
"Greek defense is amazing"
After the end of the dramatic semifinal where Spain defeated Greece in penalties 11-9 and advanced to the final of the world championship, Felipe Perone admitted that "It was a truly great game. We struggled a lot. We scored six goals and couldn't score more, and in the last second we managed to equalize and then win on penalties. This is truly the beauty of this game. I think the fans who watched this game saw how amazing a sport this is and how we put our hearts, our souls into the water."
Regarding Greece: "I think the Greek defense is amazing. We need to respect them too, because they have an amazing defense. I am very happy to be in this final too."
About goalkeeper Unai Agirre: "He is amazing. Since I met him when he was 17, he said he wanted to become the best goalkeeper, not in the world, but in history. And I think he has that self-confidence and is also humble. But he works very hard, and that's why he deserved to save those two penalties. He worked hard to save those two penalties."
On playing in the final in his last World Championship: "It's truly a dream come true. I worked hard. I am 39 years old. It's not easy. I give everything to be here. Of course, you never know what the result will be, but I couldn't believe even in my best dream that I would be here in this final and enjoying this tournament as I am enjoying it here. I only remember my kids before the tournament, I wasn't sure if I would come, and they were telling me, 'Dad, enjoy it.' And I really am enjoying it."
About the World Championship in Singapore: "I am very excited to be here. I read Lee Kuan Yew's book and learned a lot about the country where water polo is an important sport. I know a lot about the history of Singapore."
Bernat Sanahuja scored four goals and said:
"We played very well in defense. In the last two minutes, we were a bit lacking in attack, but we kept defending, and that is the key to the game. I am really happy about what the team did, and we need to continue like this for the final."
He added: "We didn't attack as we know, we didn't shoot as we know, but we kept defending. We need to improve in attack, but we kept the opposing team very well, and in the last second, 'Munia' (Muniarith) scored and it was fantastic."
On returning to the final after two tournaments: "Now we need to rest a bit, but I think we are prepared. We need to continue training and see whom we play against, but we are in a good moment. We need to start like today, but we need to remain like that throughout the game. Our goal is always to get the gold. I think the team wants this gold so much that we have to play for it."
