Di Fulvio renews contract with Pro Recco
Pro Recco is pleased to announce the renewal of the contract with its captain, Francesco Di Fulvio, for the 2025/2026 sports season with an extension option. Born in Pescara on August 15, 1993, Di Fulvio has been wearing the white and blue cap since 2014. His continued presence in the Italian champion team confirms the desire to keep the Club at the top.
“I signed for only one year, but with the ownership we know that it will almost certainly be a journey that will lead us together at least until the Olympics in Los Angeles. Being the captain of Pro Recco is an honor; when I arrived, it was Tempesti, then it was Ivovic, two players I saw as superheroes. Today, being like them is something incredible; playing for these colors is a pleasure, but also a great responsibility: the Pro Recco cap weighs more than any other, everyone in September sees us as winners and we have seen this season how difficult it is to confirm that”.
The highlight of the season? “I choose two: the Italian Cup for sure, of the three titles it was the one that excited me the most. Just six months had passed since the summer chaos, and there we were, lifting a new trophy to the sky, in a historic pool like Scandone in Naples, in a very warm atmosphere. The second moment I cherish is the final minutes of the last Euro Cup final; on the bench, I realized that a cycle was closing with teammates who had become my best friends: Del Lungo, Echenique, Younger, Hallock. I won't deny that a few tears came down, it was nice to see them celebrate with their families, who over the years have also become ours. But in sports, as in life, we move forward: the new Pro Recco that is emerging will have nothing to envy to this just closed cycle that with Hernandez and then especially with Sukno saw us win a lot in Italy and Europe”.
With a revolution looming, Di Fulvio's role as captain will be even more important outside the water: “Us more experienced players, who have been in Recco longer, will have the obligation to make the new arrivals understand that here you need to endure the responsibility and pressure to win. This year after game 1, we turned it around because the young ones changed mentally, they understood that being at Pro Recco is not just a dream but a responsibility that they must turn into a desire to play, have fun, and win”.
While changes are expected in the pool, on the bench, they start with a confirmation, Sandro Sukno: “He was fundamental this summer, first of all, he sent a strong signal to President Felugo, deciding to stay out of love and gratitude towards Pro Recco. Two years ago, he chose me as vice-captain even though Figlioli and Aicardi were on the team, he was already thinking about the future: I owe him a lot for my daily growth, he pushes you to train at your best, and on the field, sacrifices are rewarded”.
The white and blue number 2 also has words of praise for the new management: “We can only thank the Behring and Hammarskjold families, they didn’t know what they were getting into, yet they were there and embarked on this adventure. Their closeness was an extra boost, they write to us after the matches, they were by our side in the most important games and in all the finals. This is not taken for granted considering they live on the other side of the world and have important work commitments. They always follow us, even from afar, but it's even more beautiful to see them celebrating with us: humble people who make us feel the passion they have towards us”.
With twenty-seven titles in hand, Di Fulvio is approaching Tempesti, the most successful in Pro Recco's history with his 39 titles: “I don't think about that, I don't care, my dream is another one: to lift a trophy in the new Recco pool, in front of many Recco fans. And then continue to have fun together as long as there is the desire from both sides: I spent fifteen years in Pescara and have been living in Recco for eleven, this is truly my second home”.
