2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships - Week 2 Day 4

The competition ramped up for the penultimate day of the 2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC) in Perth today, as our 12&U and 16&U teams battled it out for lucrative positions in tomorrow’s finals.

As teams prepare for their final games in Perth, one thing has become very clear: every team has been loving their time at this year’s AYWPC.

Neve from the Hunter Hurricanes 16&U Girls Gold team has been enjoying the opportunity to spend time with her teammates both in and out of the water.

“I’ve enjoyed hanging out with my team, whether it's on pool deck or not… whether it's just in between games or exploring the city, wherever we are, it has been great,” Neve said.

After producing a hard-fought win this morning, Water Polo South Australia 16&U Boys Green players Toby and Beau said they will take confidence from today’s win when they face the Hunter Hurricanes in tomorrow’s final.

“I think the win is a huge confidence boost,” said Toby. “We've improved so much over the tournament, so I think from the last time we played them (the Hunter Hurricanes) to now, we'll be a much better side when we face them tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Teammate Beau, who has played at numerous AYWPCs, said that the opportunity to compete against high calibre and diverse opposition is what keeps him coming back.

“Representing the state, it's pretty good, and you just get to play water polo at a level that you don’t normally get to,” Beau said.

Perth local Rory has been enjoying not only playing with his mates in the UWA Bears 12&U Boys Gold team, but also playing in front of a home crowd.

“It has been great this week getting all the team support from everyone, and it’s good fun being around all the boys,” Rory said.

“It’s a lot bigger crowd than what we’re used to, and even people who don’t completely love water polo can come and watch you, so it’s good fun.”

SNB Breakers 12&U Girls team player Ava has been loving her maiden AYWPC this week and has been making the most of the opportunity to play with her friends.

“I thought the AYWPC was going to be very fun, which it is, and I was excited to come here and spend time with all my friends,” Ava said.

“At the AYWPC, you have lots of new teams that we don’t know how they play or what they’re going to be like… but it’s such a great experience.”
