FOUR OUT OF FOUR, TRIESTE WITH FULL SCORE
THE NEW FINP PRESIDENT RICCOBELLO IN TRIESTE CAMPUS
The first round of the Serie A Silver of Paralympic Water Polo Finp, an event organized by Pallanuoto Trieste in co-organization with the Municipality of Trieste and in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, ended after two very intense days of matches. Five teams competed, in addition to the hosts there were also Mo.Cri.Ni. Palermo, Granda Cuneo, Octopus Roma, and Crazy Waves Pisa.
From a sporting point of view, the Samer & Co. Shipping sponsored team was outstanding in the water. The team coached by Daniele Bettini, after two victories on Saturday, repeated the success on Sunday, beating Octopus Roma 10-6 – with goals from Ikodinovic (3), Cantoro (5), and Vicini (2) – and defeating Crazy Waves Pisa 11-3, thanks to goals from Ikodinovic (4) and Vicini (7). In the standings, Pallanuoto Trieste took the first place with full points (12 points), ahead of Crazy Waves Pisa (7), Mo.Cri.Ni. Palermo (6), Granda Cuneo (4), and Octopus Roma (0). The return round of the Serie A Silver will be played between May 10th and 11th, presumably in Rome. "The results speak for themselves - analyzes coach Daniele Bettini - we have greatly improved compared to last season, we played with calmness, demonstrating remarkable team cohesion and the right mentality. I am really satisfied, for now, we are halfway, we will have to be good at confirming ourselves in the return round."
Trieste showcased not only in the pool, as a corollary to the Serie A Silver of Paralympic Water Polo, Trieste Campus has become not only an inclusive space in support of the organization, but also the stage from which to reflect on the great themes of this discipline.
On Saturday, in fact, the new president of Finp, Franco Riccobello, was a guest at Trieste Campus and the protagonist of a meeting with athletes. Among the first initiatives of his mandate and future goals, the focus is on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where Finp aims to propose a demonstration match, with the goal of officially including paralympic water polo in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Such a high goal starts with small steps: from the Italian competitive season, which in this edition shows a positive evolution, with an Italian movement - as explained by Mario Giugliano, Coach of the Italian Paralympic Water Polo National Team - "increasingly solid and competitive."
The conference was opened with a greeting from the President of Pallanuoto Trieste and Trieste Campus Enrico Samer and with the intervention of the municipal councilor for Social Policies Massimo Tognolli, who highlighted the commitment of the municipal administration in promoting inclusive paths through sports, emphasizing the value of sports events as a lever for the emotional and relational well-being of people with disabilities. The meeting was attended by athletes, coaches, institutions, and representatives of the sports world, including the coach of the paralympic Pallanuoto Trieste, Daniele Bettini, who shared his experience with the team, talking about the progress of the athletes and the strong emotions that accompany each match.
