Jordan Van Reeken Returns to Iona University as Assistant Men’s/Women’s Water Polo Coach
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Jordan Van Reeken returns to her alma mater as the former Gaels’ athlete joins the staff of Iona University men’s and women’s water polo head coach Brian Kelly for the 2024-25 academic year.
A 2022 graduate of Iona University with a degree in Speech Pathology, the Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago native and St. Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain graduate, the 2020 and 2022 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Honorable Mention recipient returns to New Rochelle, N.Y. following a standout career for the Gaels.
The 2019 and 2022 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) First Team honoree accounted for 240 goals, 82 assists, 189 steals, 241 drawn kickouts and 32 field blocks in 156 games during the 2018-to-2020 and 2022 seasons to help Iona to a 49-73 record in women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition.
She contributed 44 goals, 15 assists, 50 steals, 66 drawn kickouts with six field blocks during a 13-23 freshman prior to notching 72 goals, 15 assists, 71 steals, 69 drawn kickouts and 11 field blocks for All-MAAC First Team status in 2019 during a 16-17 sophomore season for Iona.
In 2020, she earned her first All-America nod for contributing 34 goals, 10 assists, 13 steals, 30 drawn kickouts and four field blocks during a 4-8 COVID-19 abbreviated campaign.
A 2021 MAAC Preseason Team selection, van Reeken did not compete in a game for Iona during her senior season.
She returned to the water as a graduate student in 2022 and accounted for 90 goals, 42 assists, 55 steals, 76 drawn kickouts and 11 field blocks to aid the Gaels to a 16-15 record for the team’s first winning season since a 22-15 mark in 2015. For her performance, she claimed preseason All-MAAC First Team, All-MAAC First Team and ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention commendation.
A member of the Trindad and Tobago National Team since 2012, she served as her homeland’s U18 National Team captain in 2016 and 2017 after earning Most Valuable Player (MVP) kudos at the Central American and Caribbean Games (CCCAN) in 2016.
After graduating from Iona, Van Reeken went on to pursue her career in Speech and Language Pathology by completing her clinical fellowship year at a high school in the South Bronx. She will continue to work as a Speech and Language Pathologist while also helping the Iona water polo programs part time.
