The Spanish broke a 26-year curse against us

The Spanish broke a 26-year curse against us

The Hungarian national team lost 10-7 to Spain on the second day of the Olympic men's tournament. Of course, nothing is lost with this, as there are still three group meetings waiting for us, we can improve against Japan on Thursday.

After the girls, there was also the second match day for the boys a surprise, this time in our group. On Tuesday morning, the Australians gave the Serbians a big beating, the defending champions won 8-3, so that the score was 7-1 at the end of the third quarter. The meeting between Japan and France was already much more balanced, the home team eventually took it with one goal, and in the evening our group stage could come against the Spaniards, which already had the stakes of who would remain the only one unbeaten in the B-rated six.

In the first minutes of the "rematch" of the bronze match in Tokyo, neither side could find a hold on the other, and after just five minutes, the Spaniards took the lead thanks to Alberto Munarriz. At the beginning, we made Unai Aguirre big, we couldn't score his goal either from action or from the outside, and on the other side, Albert Sanahuja also shot through our wall. Fortunately, in the last seconds, we got the Spanish goalkeeper ready, Dániel Angyal pulled in Krisztián Manhercz's cross from the wall, so we were only one goal behind after eight minutes. at the beginning of the second period, everyone could be sure of this, but Vince Vigvári called him for help when he put Aguirre through, which equalized. Our joy did not last long, Sergi Cabanas gave them the advantage again from a sharp angle, but a few attacks later, Gergő Zalánki's hand was also burnt. Unfortunately, however, we fell asleep in the last seconds, which was punished by Marc Larumbe, i.e. the one-goal Spanish lead remained at the break.

Angyal also doubled, at least it seemed that the ball crossed the goal line, and this was confirmed by VAR. The Spaniards played with many technical errors, but they recovered the ball on numerous occasions (or from rebounds), while there was no shortage of counterattacks. Instead of equalizing, however, they went ahead by two again, Alvaro Granados bombed a five-meter shot, and even flashed from a distance from the next attack, Zsolt Varga called for time at minus three. Márton Vámos reacted to this with a well-aimed rocket, and with Vogel's many feats, we were able to attack for minus one, and Gergő Fekete solved this from a slightly unusual position. However, Miguel de Toro immediately restored the two in between, and in the end even Szilárd Jansik couldn't hit a close-range (not very accurate) cross, so we should have worked for two in the fourth quarter.

This task was only made more difficult by Martin Famera's quick strike (which came just as we were subbing), then Manhercz broke our deadlock with less than four minutes left. However, Larumbe somehow managed to get the ball between Vogel and the short post, making it 10-7, and since we didn't manage to close quickly, neither team exerted themselves in the last 1-2 minutes. The result did not change, the Spaniards remained the only undefeated in the group, not to mention they defeated us for the first time since 1998 in a major world tournament.

Wednesday is a holiday, Thursday from 21:05 The boys continue against Japan.
