The girls chased the Dutch, but the victory was theirs in the last minute
In the opening match of the Olympics, the Hungarian women's national team lost 10-8 to the Netherlands. The start was bad, but after the lines were settled we overtook the European champions even from minus three, but in the last minute they moved from 8-8, and at the end they scored an empty net goal.
The Olympic flame lit up in Paris on Friday night, and on Saturday the water polo tournament started already, with the women's group matches. Ours immediately faced a tough test, as they opened against the Dutch at 2:00 p.m., who they lost to in the European Championship in Eindhoven, but a month later they got revenge in the quarter-finals of the World Championship.
The Netherlands won the Simone van de Kraats scored her first Olympic goal with a t-shirt, a five-meter shot, while we initially had trouble with counterfouls. Halfway through the quarter, Sabrina van der Sloot doubled their lead, then Bente Rogge took advantage of a man advantage. We had to ask for time, which immediately achieved the desired effect, Dóra Leimeter scored the ice-breaker, but unfortunately the three-goal difference was restored not long after. Dorottya Szilágyi also scored a goal, but we couldn't get any closer until the end of the first quarter. intermissions on both sides. Alda Magyari started piling up the saves, then the answer finally came up front, Kamilla Faragó snapped into the short bottom. Almost five and a half minutes passed before the first goal was scored in the second quarter, and it ended up being the last as well, i.e. we zeroed in on the Dutch in this period and removed one from the deficit.
< p>At the beginning of the second half, they managed to catch up with the Dutch: Magyari started Vanda Vályi, who was not really taken seriously by the white caps, and she somehow stuffed the ball into the short. Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy the goal for long, Van de Kraats moved them from 4, but then Gréta Gurisatti us, who converted another man advantage into a goal. However, we couldn't take the lead, and Bente Rogge punished this from the counterattack, and then we responded immediately: we once again passed the ball beautifully, at the end of which Vályi scored our first double. What's more, Szilágyi's bomb was blocked on the post, and on the other hand, they also scored from the center, of course we didn't give up, Vályi was successful again thanks to Mahieu Geraldine's excellent observation. Then Szilágyi also bombed one over the head of Laura Aarts from the wrong hand, we caught them again, crazy excitement was to be expected in the last three minutes. We did defend a disadvantage, but we couldn't repeat it in the last minute, we had 40 seconds left to equalize for the second time. We attacked 7 against 6, in the end Rita Keszthelyi unfortunately hit the post, and Bente Rogge scored our empty net, which made the final score 10-8.Many encouraging words we could see an element against the European champions, moreover, at a particularly high level compared to the opening match, and there is nothing to lose in terms of advancing.
The girls will continue against Canada on Monday from 20:00, but before that on Sunday at 19:30 the boys will also jump into the water with the hosts France.
