No. 24 Pacific Opens 2025 Season with Four East Coast Matches - University of the Pacific
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The regular season begins Saturday for the No. 24 Pacific women's water polo program as it gets ready for four matches in the Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Pacific will open the tournament against Villanova at 8:20 a.m. (PT) Saturday, followed by a 4:20 p.m. (PT) match against La Salle later that day. The Tigers will play two more matches Sunday against Marist at 6:15 a.m. (PT) and No. 22 Brown at 9:15 a.m. (PT).
Junior Dora Alaksza headlines the squad after being named a 2024 All-America Honorable Mention. She registered four goals in the team's exhibition match against No. 14 Michigan on Jan. 19. Senior Addison McGowan tallied a hat trick in that exhibition as well.
James Graham enters his 11th season coaching the women as he previously coached the team from 2013-23. He's coached the program to three NCAA Tournaments in 2017, 2018 and 2019 after winning the GCC Tournament each year.
The Tigers are 1-0 all-time against Villanova after winning 19-2 in 2011. The Wildcats are off to a 4-0 start on the year after picking up home wins last weekend against Gannon, Iona, Mount St. Mary's and Mercyhurst.
Pacific and La Salle will meet for the first time ever. The Explorers dropped four matches last weekend at Princeton's tournament to Princeton, Azusa Pacific, Saint Francis (PA) and Bucknell in overtime.
The Tigers are 6-2 all-time against Marist and have won five of the last six dating back to 2016. The Red Foxes are receiving votes in the CWPA Top-25 Poll and will open their season tonight against Indiana.
Pacific is 3-3 all-time against Brown and won last year's meeting 8-6 in a neutral game in Santa Clara. The Bears will open their season Saturday against Iona.
