Liga Iberdrola Femenina | Matchday 11 Preview
Last matchday of the first round in the Liga Iberdrola Femenina. And last matchday of 2024 before the one-month break for the Christmas holidays and the World Cup competition. After the early game where Astralpool CN Sabadell defeated CN Rubí 20-5, here are the five matches taking place this Saturday 21/12: Simalga Canoe-CN Terrassa (12:00, live on Telemadrid), EPlus CN Catalunya-CN Sant Feliu (12:45), Zodiac CN At. Barceloneta-Assolim CN Mataró (13:00, live on Teledeporte), CE Mediterrani-CN Sant Andreu (13:30), and CD WP Iruña 9802-Santa Cruz Tenerife Echeyde (20:00).
The bottom-placed Simalga Real Canoe NC hosts CN Terrassa at their Pez Volador pool (12:00, live on Telemadrid) looking to end 2024 on a high note and start the next year strengthened. The Madrid team will need to perform much better in the second round to climb out of the last position. A team like Jordi Millán's, in third place with 24 points, is expected to be heavily favored.
At Can Toda (12:45), EPlus CN Catalunya faces CN Sant Feliu in what is expected to be a closely contested match, with a spot in the upcoming Iberdrola Queen's Cup at stake. Baix Llobregat's team has 12 points, two more than the Barcelona team (with 'Cata' having a pending match).
Another exciting match will be broadcast live on Teledeporte from the Sant Sebastià pool (13:00). Sixth-placed Zodiac CN At. Barceloneta with 16 points hosts fourth-placed Assolim CN Mataró with 21 points. Maresme's team is eager to end the year well after a midweek defeat at home against the league leader Astralpool Sabadell. Chus Martín's team, on the other hand, is on an upward trajectory.
A very appealing Barcelona Derby between CE Mediterrani and CN Sant Andreu at the Josep Vallès pool (13:30). Javi Aznar's team, second with nine wins and one loss, visits 'Medi' who is fifth with six points less and aspires to cause an upset to conclude 2024. Marian Díaz's team triumphed 7-20 against Rubí in the last matchday, while the Sant Andreu team won convincingly against Iruña 9802.
Lastly, Iruña will end 2024 by hosting Santa Cruz Tenerife Echeyde in Pamplona (20:00). The Navarre team, placed eleventh with only one victory, aims to surprise against an island team currently having a challenging league season with just six points, despite being in the Eurocup semifinals. They must start climbing up the standings if they wish to dream of competing in the Iberdrola Queen's Cup, which seems difficult at the moment.
