NEW BOMB IN KRAGUJEVAC: Andrija Prlainović to Join Radnički Next Season!
One of the greatest water polo players of all time and a member of the most successful generation of the Serbian national team, Andrija Prlainović, will defend the colors of Radnički from Kragujevac in the 2025/26 season. Our renowned water polo player becomes the third reinforcement for the upcoming season for the Šumadinac team, following the prior agreements with Olympic champions Sava Ranđelović and Nikola Dedović.
Prlainović originated from Jadran Herceg Novi, then moved to Partizan, and on two occasions represented the Italian giant Pro Recco. He also played for Crvena Zvezda, Hungarian teams Solnok and OSC, and French Marseille, from where he now arrives in Kragujevac.
His trophies are nearly immeasurable. It is enough to say that he was a national champion in every country he competed in and that he is the only player in the world to have won the Champions League with four different clubs – Partizan (2011), Pro Recco (2012 and 2015), Crvena Zvezda (2013), and Solnok (2017).
On the international scene, he was even more successful. As one of the leaders of the golden generation of the "dolphins," he won the Olympics twice (2016, 2020), was a world champion twice (2009, 2015), five-time European champion (2006, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018). He won the World League 11 times, the World Cup three times, and once the Mediterranean Games...
Prlainović is not only a true leader but also a player who makes his teammates better, and there is no doubt that he will be a huge reinforcement for the team from Kragujevac, who announce an attack on all trophies.
– Although there was previous interest from Radnički, the right moment has somehow arrived now. I have decided not to end my career, I feel good, and Radnički has shown a great desire for me to join their ranks. Also, a great role in my decision were the highest ambitions, which align with mine, as well as the large number of national team players in the club, both current and former, whom I know very well – emphasized Prlainović.
The leaders of Radnički aim to bring back as many of our players to Serbia, and the significance of Andrija's return is best illustrated by the fact that he will be returning to Serbian club water polo after 11 years abroad.
– I am happy to once again play for a Serbian team. I have also become a bit tired of life abroad. Everything has its time. In Marseille, I spent the most time since leaving Serbia, a whole five seasons, and the moment of return had to come. I am in my later playing years, but I believe I still have a lot to offer – believes Prlainović.
Andrija had only words of praise for his new club.
– I have been following Radnički since the arrival of director Jugoslav Vasović, and I am quite familiar with the club's situation, so it was not difficult for me to opt for coming to Kragujevac. This is the most consistent club in Serbia in the last decade. It has a long history of playing in Europe and the Adriatic League, winning domestic trophies, as well as the Regional League, and now the ambitions are even greater. Our best players have been brought in this season, and there will be even more next season, which clearly reflects the high goals of the club. We will strive to aim for all trophies – concluded Prlainović.
