Saint Francis University Releases 2025 Women’s Water Polo Schedule
LORETTO, Pa. — Saint Francis University women’s water polo head coach Jay O’Neil has released the program’s 2025 schedule.
“I’m very excited to get the 2025 season underway,” said O’Neil. “Returning all but one starter and adding a wealth of young talent, this season should be a fun one for the Red Flash.”
The season will begin with the Princeton Invitational on January 25-26 at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. The Red Flash will face Long Island University, Siena College and La Salle University during the two-day event. This will be the first of two matches Saint Francis will play against Siena.
The following weekend’s matches will be in Lexington, Va. at the VMI Invitational hosted by the Virginia Military Institute, taking on Mount St. Mary’s University, Gannon University, Austin College and the University of Toronto on January 31-to-February 2. Saint Francis has defeated Austin, Gannon and Toronto in their last matchups, including an 11-8 win over Toronto last season.
The Red Flash will face their first Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) matches of the season at the Bucknell Invite hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., on February 8-9. SFU will face Mercyhurst University – which rejoined the CWPA as part of the school’s move to Division I – along with the host Bison to go along with rematches versus Mount St. Mary’s and Siena.
The team’s next games will be o February 22-23 in the first of two CWPA crossovers. Hosted by Brown University and Harvard University in Providence, R.I., and Cambridge, Mass., respectively, Saint Francis will face Harvard, Brown and defending league champion Princeton University. The Red Flash fell to the Harvard Crimson in last year’s CWPA Championship Tournament in a hard-fought 12-9 match in Cambridge, Mass.
To open March, Saint Francis will travel to Morgantown, W. Va., to play VMI and host Salem University in the Salem Invitational at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center.
Taking advantage of Spring Break, the Red Flash will head out west to play Long Beach State University, Azusa Pacific University, the University of La Verne and Biola University between March 5-7.
After the break, Saint Francis will take one of its own, returning to play on March 22 in one of two trips to Ann Arbor, Mich., and the campus of the University of Michigan. The Red Flash will play Mercyhurst, Michigan, Marist College and Bucknell in during a two-day tournament.
The second trip to Michigan will be another CWPA weekend taking place on April 4-5. Saint Francis will play Harvard, Brown, Princeton and Michigan for the second and final time before the CWPA Championship.
The team will then return home to Loretto, Pa., for a home game as the Red Flash host Salem on April 12 at Stokes Natatorium during Senior Day.
Brown will host this year’s CWPA Championship Tournament on April 25-27 in the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center with the victor claiming the league’s automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted by Indiana University on May 9-11.
