BM - Away defeat against Osimo for Club Aquatico
Great balance throughout the match played behind closed doors today at Passetto in Ancona between the home team Osimo Pirates and the team of Club Aquatico Pescara, in a game played at a very high pace and characterized by continuous turnovers. The teams of coaches Martedì and Giannouris, both based on young players from their respective youth academies, chose a mirrored tactic, with very tight defenses to recover the ball in front of the centers and continuous counterattacks: this resulted in a spectacular match that entertained all fans following from home, decided only in the final minutes.
The first half was stingy in goals, with goalkeepers Ricciotti and Jurisic only yielding due to Vaccarini's penalty for the home team and then on a fast break by Leonardo Mazza for the orange team of Club Aquatico. In the second quarter, it was the players from Pescara who took the lead with an excellent man-up play finished off the post by Matteo Guerzoni, then overtaken by the one-two of Osimo's Palanca and Ricciotti, interspersed with the first penalty saved by the home goalkeeper on Ruben Van Vierzen.
Even in the third quarter, the players of Giannouris immediately reacted with a beautiful rebound shot under the crossbar by Jacopo Riccitelli, bringing the score to a temporary 3-3, followed by goals on one side from Palanca and Ricciotti, and on the other from Giuseppe Polifemo and Filippo D'Antuono, scoring his first goal in Serie B in a very heated moment of the match, balancing the game into the final quarter.
But in the final quarter, everything happened, also thanks to the referee making some decisions that influenced the course of the match: in the first minute, Ricciotti saved the second consecutive penalty from Van Vierzen and then on the subsequent counterattack, the Pescara goalkeeper Jurisic and the young Cristofaro were expelled from the bench for protests after the goal scored by Bersacchia following a numerical superiority. Thus, the second goalkeeper of the orange team born in 2008 Carlo Di Fulvio made his Serie B debut, immediately making a decisive save allowing Jacopo Riccitelli to score the 6-6 goal, following a double numerical superiority signaled by the referee. The last 3 minutes belonged to the home team players who scored the final two goals with Marcucci and Vaccarini, with Club Aquatico hitting the post with Polifemo on the third and final penalty, in an unfortunate afternoon from the five meters for the Pescara players.
Speaking post-match, Jacopo Riccitelli commented as the former player of the match: "It is always difficult to play at Passetto and Osimo made things tough for us thanks to a great defense. We were penalized by some refereeing decisions, but this does not detract from the performance of my former teammates." Coach Giannouris also commented: "For us, a defeat that makes us grow: the players need to learn to play away from home where the psychological aspect counts more. We are at the beginning of the season: teams can have ups and downs but will improve during the season. It's a shame today that there was no audience."
