Mladost Sisters Advance, Jadran Stopped

Women water polo players from ŽAVK Mladost Zagreb managed to secure second place in the Novi Sad group of the Challenger Cup, second qualifying round, thus qualifying for the final tournament or Final Four.

In the final, or 3rd round, Mladost triumphed over the German team Blau-Weiss from Bochum with a score of 15:14 after a penalty shootout, following a 12:12 tie after the end of the 32nd minute. The Zagreb team had a strong start, winning the first quarter 4:0, maintaining the same goal difference of 8:4 after the second period. Furthermore, they continued the lead in the third quarter (11:7), but then had a major setback in the last eight minutes, with the Germans winning 5:1 and taking the game to a penalty shootout. Mladost's captain, Iva Rožić, was once again the best scorer for the team with 6 goals.

With this victory, Mladost finished second in the tournament behind Vojvodina.

Meanwhile, the Croatian champions, players from Jadran Split, failed to secure at least a second place in the Istanbul tournament to advance to the Final Four. In the 3rd round, the Turkish team Galatasaray outperformed the Split team 14:9. The match was practically decided in the first quarter, which Galatasaray won 6:0. Once again, Jelena Butić stood out as the top scorer for Jadran Split with 6 goals.

In the second match of this group, Izmir defeated Otter from London 19:4, thus the Turkish teams Izmir and Galatasaray advanced further.
