Panionios grabs the top spot with an emphatic victory over Panathinaikos, 14-12 at Seraphio pool
A very important victory and a sort of revenge for the defeat in the first round was celebrated by Panionios at Serapheiο swimming pool, defeating Panathinaikos 14-12 in the 9th match of the Men's A1 Water Polo Championship.
With this win, Panionios climbed to the top of Group A1, leveling with 24 points alongside NO Vouliagmeni, while Panathinaikos remained 3 points behind the top spot after this defeat.
The match started ideally for the "greens," who took a four-goal lead (5-1), which was reduced by two goals by the "blue-reds" at the end of the first period (5-3). Panathinaikos continued to lead the match, but the hosts managed to equalize at the end of the first half (7-7).
The home team regained a two-goal lead at the beginning of the second half (10-8), with the "panthers" narrowing the gap to the minimum before the end of the third period. The last quarter belonged to Panionios, as they overturned the score with 4 consecutive goals and took a three-goal lead (10-13). Until the end of the match, the "blue-reds" maintained the lead, eventually winning 14-12.
