Excellent start for the young Mladost and Jadran water polo teams
As the proverb goes 'the morning shows the day', then the tournaments of the second qualifying round of the Women's Water Polo Challenge Cup in Novi Sad and Istanbul will be great for the teams from Zagreb and Split.
In the first round of the tournament in Novi Sad, Mladost defeated potentially the strongest opponents, Lisbon's Benfica, 12-10. The Frog Ladies led throughout the match, with a 7-3 lead in the second quarter. In fact, throughout the game, the Portuguese team not only did not take the lead, but also did not equalize, except for the initial 1-1 and a penalty goal.
The best for Mladost in terms of goals was the captain and the best player of Croatia in 2024 according to the Croatian Water Polo Federation, Iva Rožić, with 4 goals, including three penalty shots.
In the other match of the same group, Vojvodina defeated the German team Blau-Weiss from Bochum 19-8. On Saturday at 18:00, the Frog Ladies will play against the team from Novi Sad.
In Istanbul, Jadran won against London's Otter 16-7 in the first round of their group, which was as expected as the English team is likely the weakest in the group. Jelena Butić scored 6 goals.
In the other match of the same group, in the game between cities, Izmir defeated Galatasaray 12-10.
On Saturday, the Jadran team will play against Izmir at 18:00 local time.
