"Farewell" to Europe with a defeat for Panionios, 14-11 against Italian Ortigia
Panionios was defeated 14-11 by Ortigia in Italy and bid farewell to Europe with a loss in the context of the 6th and final matchday of the Men's Water Polo Euro Cup group stage.
Despite the absence of mathematical hopes for qualification, the team led by Kostas Dimou entered the game strongly. In fact, they led 6-5 in the first half, showing they could meet the demands of the match. However, a poor third quarter, where the hosts significantly increased the lead (6-1), changed the course of the game. Despite efforts in the final quarter, Panionios could not reverse the situation and was defeated 14-11.
Thus, the team from Nea Smyrni finished last in Group B with 3 points.
