Bespoke professional learning programme available for water polo coaches
Swim England is offering experienced water polo coaches from across the sport an opportunity to be part of a new bespoke professional learning programme.
Partnering with Leeds Beckett University, the 18-month programme will aim to accelerate coaches’ practical ability to develop high level players and teams and create a community of coaches that can catalyse change in the sport.
It will give the selected coaches the opportunity to learn from several different approaches including workshops, field work and coaching conversations.
It also provides a chance for coaches to come together, learn from one another and help each other develop their skills further.
The programme will look to represent all levels of the sport – from clubs, regions, talent centres, as well as coaches on national and international programmes.
An online information session to find out more about the opportunity will take place at 7pm on Monday 9 December, which will be followed by an application process for any coaches interested.
You can sign up for the information session here, with the programme set to begin in March 2025.
Drive the sport forward
Speaking on the announcement of the programme, Swim England water polo talent and inclusion officer Andy McGinty said: “It’s an exciting time for water polo and it’s really important for us to support our coaches so that we can continue to help drive the sport forward.
“We’re looking for people to come forward and help us with this programme, which could have a significant impact on the development of the sport across England and Great Britain both now and in the future.
“It promises to provide a platform for coaches to share ideas, drills and techniques and help us create a useful tool that will support their development going forward.”
Swim England’s head of coaching, Craig McCulloch added: “We’re thrilled to be bringing this opportunity for all of our water polo coaches.
“This is an exciting and innovative programme, which will help enhance the skills of the many talented coaches selected.
“This release of this programme plays a part of our wider Water Polo coaching strategy, and we would love to see as many of you as possible at our information session so we can explain this further and answer any questions you may have.”
To express your interest in the programme, please click here and complete the form by Sunday 8 December. Invitations will then be sent out to all those that have signed up after the deadline.
