Amersfoorter Van der Werve shines in Eredivisie game weekend with six matches

While the men of ZV De Ham ZC advanced to the group stage of the Nordic League, five games were played in the Water polo for men yesterday. MNC Dordrecht secured their first victory of the season, Het Ravijn won the crucial match against ZPB H&L Productions, and the men of De Zaan kept the points at home in their top match against UZSC. With the wins by Donk and Amersfoort, where Max van der Werve scored nine times, they continue to trail each other closely.Polar Bears will host ZVL-1886 tonight. The current standings can be found on this page.

De Zaan – UZSC 19-10 (6-2, 10-2, 14-6, 19-10)
The match can be watched on this livestream.

The top match between leader De Zaan and runner-up UZSC was won by the home team with a score of 19-10. De Zaan took a 3-0 lead and ended the first period with 6-2, after which the victory was never in doubt for the team led by Andreas Mirales. De Zaan player Daan Bakker scored four times and observed that, despite high expectations, the game was easier than anticipated.

''We started strong, and due to our pressure, they had hardly any room to play their own game. Defensively, we were solid and gave UZSC hardly any normal chances to score. This allowed us to quickly build a comfortable lead. We remained focused, which prevented them from ever getting into the game. The high pace at which we played, the efficient attacking play, and the strong defensive work were the keys to the decisive victory. This was mainly the result of all the hard work put in over the past few months and actually years. We continue to make progress as a team, even in tough matches.''

ZPC Amersfoort - Polar Bears 14-10 (5-5, 8-7, 11-9, 14-10)

The teams from Amersfoort and Ede put on a great spectacle. After Dynand Muller put the home team ahead, the team of Kike Garcia quickly equalized. The team from Ede then boldly took the lead, and after an attractive first period, the score was tied at 5-5. The second and third periods remained close in terms of scoring, after which the home team secured the victory in the final minutes of the game. Max van der Werve was incredibly important with nine goals in the win for Mark Siewers' team.

Team manager at Polar Bears, Marcel Timmermans, commented on the match. ''Despite the loss, it was another lovely night of playing. Three quarters of an evenly matched game against a good team. With lots of teamwork, good actions, and good energy, it was a fine game. We are steadily building on it.''

In addition to Van der Werve's nine goals, Sam Kunz (2), Jorren Hanselaar, Thijmen Karel, and Dynand Muller (all 1) scored for the home team.

The goal scorers for Polar Bears were Jikke Tolsma (3), Wessel de Ligny (2), Timo Zittersteijn, Edgar Adriaanse, Kimi Christ David Zuidema, and Sjors de Kater (all 1).

BZ&PC – MNC Dordrecht 7-13 (3-3, 5-6, 5-9, 7-13)
BZ&PC and MNC Dordrecht both started their meeting at the bottom of the Eredivisie without points. After 32 minutes of water polo at De Kuil pool, MNC came away with a convincing 13-7 victory. The hosts had enough opportunities to stay close, but their accuracy in power play situations and from the penalty spot was not sharp enough. A notable performance came from goalkeeper Milan de Koff, who made some great saves and stopped two penalty shots.

MNC played the whole game with good discipline and now occupies the eleventh place in the top division. Top scorer Dino van Vendeloo commented on the match. "After an exciting battle at the bottom of the league, we managed to win convincingly."

The red lantern is at home at the BZ&PC clubhouse.Herman van Tongerloo commented on the match: "We started well in this crucial match for us by taking the initiative straight away. We played evenly for two periods but failed to take advantage of the numerous power play situations, partly due to the excellent goalkeeping by Milan de Koff (MNC). As a result, we not only lost touch but also lost the match, failing to follow up on last week's on-paper good result in Nijverdal and not rewarding ourselves with points now."

Dino van Vendeloo (5), Patrik Simac, and Sander Eversdijk (3) excelled for MNC. The other goal scorers for Dordrecht were Maik Aalbers and Joost Driessen (both 1). Joey Schellingerhout scored three times for BZ&PC, Luca Groenendijk, Bart Sterk, Rob Peek, and Henk Suur (all 1) scored the other goals.

GZC Donk – ZVL-1886 18-6 (2-1, 10-3, 14-5, 18-6)
In the derby against ZVL-1886, GZC Donk lost Jesse Nispeling in less than three minutes. The former international received a red card shortly after his opening goal, leaving the home team a man short for four minutes. ZVL barely took advantage of the numerical superiority. Only Ezra de Zwaan managed to score past goalkeeper Joran Westerveld. Kjeld Veenhuis set the score at 2-1 at the end of the first quarter for GZC Donk. Following three quarters of water polo, GZC Donk led 14-5. On ZVL's side, the number of exclusions increased significantly. GZC Donk's youth international Rick Terlouw set the final score at 18-6 half a minute before the end. Jorn Winkelhorst was the top scorer for GZC Donk with four goals. David Voorvelt scored twice for ZVL, which is now ninth in the Eredivisie. GZC Donk is in third place.
