MOL Women's National Championship I: Four-goal victories for Ferencváros and UVSE in the big matches
The league-leading FTC-Telekom secured an important victory at Szőnyi Street, while defending champions UVSE-Helia D triumphed in Eger – both teams won by four goals.
UVSE laid the groundwork with a 2-5 opening quarter in Eger, and in the second half they extended their lead to four goals following Szegedi Panni's goal. However, Eger managed to narrow the gap by halftime. Despite this, they couldn't get any closer, as the Budapest team, after a quick exchange of goals at the start of the third quarter, first led by three with Faragó Kamilla's penalty, and then by four again with a goal by Lendvay Zoé after a fierce battle lasting over three minutes, making it 7-11. While Eger scored one more goal at this point, two more goals from Újpest in the fourth period sealed the match.
The previously undefeated Ferencváros visited BVSC, also competing in the Champions League, and had a similar experience to UVSE's over the weekend, facing a tough opponent in the first half – and a little longer. After a goal-filled start (4-5), BVSC went nearly five minutes without conceding a goal, scoring two themselves to take the lead, with the score tied 7-7 at halftime.
Ferencváros started the third quarter with a missed penalty but eventually Dóra Leimeter put the Greens back in the lead after three minutes, followed by Bonca Vivien further extending FTC's lead from an advantage. After 8-9, the Matajsz squad increased their lead to three with two five-meter penalties, and although Dobos Csenge scored one for BVSC, Eleftheria Plevritou's beautiful goal at 0:04 to end the quarter made up for the missed penalty earlier. In the fourth quarter, Ferencváros dominated the game, decisively winning with another 0-3 run - the BVSC only managed to score two goals in the last seventy seconds.
The KSI-Szentes match brought more excitement, with the visitors taking a 2-5 lead in Komjádi, only for the sports school team to respond with a 4-0 burst. A fast Szentes response followed, but even with three goals, two more KSI goals in the madness of the third quarter allowed the teams to start the last quarter tied 8-8. Hédi Erdélyi quickly put the Kurca-side ahead again, followed by five intense minutes, during which KSI missed two penalties. After the second miss, Réka Kövér-Kis on the other side sealed the game 1:09 before the final whistle. Although there was a consolation goal 39 seconds before the end, the blue and yellows couldn't equalize again.
In the remaining two matches, there was no doubt about the winning teams: Dunaújváros swept aside Szeged, while III. Kerület sealed the win against Tatabánya with a 0-7 start in just eight minutes.
