Allievi M - it begins: the Training Academy and Fiorillo Academy championships kick off
JUNIORS, Training Academy Olympic Roma - Roma Nuoto 29-4
The championship of the Training Academy Olympic Roma Juniors A starts with a clear victory. At the Foro Italico, the team coached by Marco Varriale convincingly defeats Roma Nuoto 29-4, a team mostly made up of younger athletes. Despite this, the large victory is certainly the best way to start this new season with conviction and determination. In the next match (scheduled for December 8), Olympic will enjoy a bye week. They will be back in action on Sunday, December 22, against Frosinone Pallanuoto.
Coach Marco Varriale's words: "We played a useful match to break the ice and start the group stage well. The opposing team was mainly composed of younger athletes, so we cannot consider it an important test. However, we had the opportunity to let all team members play and try to put into practice some of the things we work on during training. Now we focus on the next match, trying to train even better."
JUNIORS, Training Academy Olympic Roma B - Centumcellae 5-12
The championship of the Training Academy Olympic Roma Juniors B starts with a loss, as they are beaten 5-12 by Centumcellae. At the Foro Italico, the young athletes, coached by the newcomer Jacopo Di Santo and Marco Varriale, start well but eventually struggle against the greater dynamism and experience of the opponents. On Sunday, December 8, there will be a bye week, and they will be back in the pool on Saturday, December 21, at 5:30 PM against Roma Vis Nova in Monterotondo.
Coach Marco Varriale's comment: "In this team, we have many 2010-born athletes who have only been working together for a few months. The boys need to get to know each other and work with consistency and diligence to respond to Coach Di Santo's demands. With patience and time, we will try to develop a group that - according to all of us - has ample room for improvement."
JUNIORS, S.S. Lazio Nuoto - Fiorillo Academy 31-2
A bitter debut for the Fiorillo Academy in the Juniors championship. At the Centro Sportivo Le Cupole in Acilia, the athletes coached by Massimiliano Grilli suffer a 31-2 defeat against the strong S.S. Lazio Nuoto. The outcome was never in doubt, with the guests trying to keep up in the first two quarters, but eventually succumbing to the counterattacks of the home team, who are used to a different pace. Their next challenge is on Sunday, December 8, at 1:30 PM at the Foro Italico against Pescara Pallanuoto.
Coach Massimiliano Grilli's thoughts: "We played against a team of a higher level than ours. In the first half, we managed to keep up with our opponents, containing their attacks until it was 7-2 in the middle of the second half. We are not used to playing in a pool this large and we still cannot keep up with the pace of these opponents, but I am sure that we will meet opponents more within our reach in the future."
Calcaterra Challenge, a demanding weekend for the Youth of the Training Academy
On Saturday, November 23, and Sunday, November 24, the Youth of the Training Academy Olympic Roma participated in the Calcaterra Challenge, an important event dedicated to this category organized by the Calcaterra brothers, Alessandro and Roberto. Our young athletes - accompanied by coach Maurizio Gatto - played challenging games against well-prepared opponents. "Tournaments like these help us understand what level we need to achieve," says coach Maurizio Gatto. He continues: "We know that we are a bit behind some teams, especially in terms of mentality. But it is only by facing experiences like these that we will gradually reduce the gap we currently have."
